The International Chamber Artists (ICA) continues its 2018-19 season with a concert showcasing diverse brass works. Performing with the ICA at this brass extravaganza is guest artist John Hagstron, second trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Join us at a performance on Sunday, April 7 at 4 PM at St. Gregory the Great Church (5545 N. Paulina, Chicago). The program opens with Mozart’s Quartet in D Major, K. 285, an elegant and enchanting work, written in the popular galant style of the Classical period. Next follows a virtuosic and dramatic fantasy based on Rossini’s Guillaume Tell, reorchestrated by Jules Demersseman and Felix Charles Berthelemy. Guest artist John Hagstrom, a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s acclaimed trumpet section, joins ICA brass members in performances of two works: a performance of the rarely heard Brass Quintet No. 1 by Malcolm Arnold, an engaging work filled with snappy rhythms, elements of Latin jazz, brass fanfares, and a rousing finale; and the Sextet, Op. 30 by Oscar Böhme, which has been called a “virtual symphony for brass,” a grand work noted for its imposing scale, sonority, and harmonic sophistication. After the April 7 ICA concert, audience members are invited to mingle and join the performers at a buffet dinner hosted by Ranalli’s of Andersonville (1512 W. Berwyn, Chicago; $15 including soft drinks and tip). Admission is free ($15 donation recommended). For more information about ICA, visit www.icamusic.org. ### International Chamber Artists (
