Residential Operator

WasteNot Compost aims to make composting as easy, clean, and cool as possible in Chicago with zero-emissions. As a residential/commercial operator, you will be responsible for navigating Chicago streets and successfully completing scheduled, year-round, pick-ups for our residential and commercial members. The successful execution of the residential/commercial operator position is essential in providing the best possible experience for WasteNot members and the entire WasteNot team.


  • Arrive on time to the warehouse for your scheduled shift

  • Exercise safe driving practices and maintain a clean driving record while operating WasteNot vehicles.

  • Load vans with route essentials including buckets, lids, carts, and liners before routes

  • Dump buckets/unload carts at the conclusion of residential routes

  • Completely unload and fully shut down van at the end of route

  • Utilize routing software app and Google Maps in order to reach destinations along your route 

  • Thoroughly read and comprehend bucket locations and addresses for both residential and commercial members to successfully complete their pick-ups

  • For unsuccessful pick-ups, take 3 photos showcasing 1) 1-2 photos of the bucket location 2) the address

  • Communicate thoroughly with WasteNot Command as issues/questions arise

  • Notify WasteNot Command of anything that needs to be addressed in regards to the vehicle fleet

  • Be the face of WasteNot while on your route and be able to tell interested Chicagoans more about our service and/or how to sign up

  • Meet WasteNot Command’s goals for route duration

  • Able to work quickly and diligently, without oversight

  • Tech-savvy, be able to utilize Onfleet, our routing software, and Google Maps to their full extent

  • Detail-oriented, focused, and dedicated to successfully completing tasks

  • Problem-solver, who looks to improve processes to save time and effort

  • Understand how to be economical with your time and use it to your best advantage

  • Punctual 

  • Ability to adapt to changes and changing conditions 

  • Positive, can-do, team player

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull 50 pounds above your head; Ability to walk, bend, squat, climb, reach, and kneel 

  • Loves putting in a good day’s work 

  • Excellent communication skills—communicates regularly, constructively, and effectively

  • Able to work independently, but also collaborate with the rest of the WasteNot Team to ensure tasks are completed properly
