Join St. Gregory's Hall artist-in-residence Sarah Crow for a tour of Edgewater’s Norman Gothic Church. The tour will highlight and ‘decode’ the rich symbolism of the church’s liturgical art - from stained glass windows and carved saints to decorative medallions and color symbolism.
?
The abundance and coherence of St. Gregory the Great’s art and iconography is the unique result of a close collaboration between the founding pastor, Rev. Monsignor Michael Klasen (1874-1945) and the architect and artisans commissioned to furnish the church. As we will see, every detail of the art and design serves to illuminate scripture and church history.
Sarah Crow is a sacred artist who has mastered Baroque oil painting techniques. She is a former lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and currently the artist in residence at St. Gregory’s Hall where she maintains an active studio of both sacred art commissions and representational paintings.
