Welcome to Building Your Employee Handbook, hosted by Lexie Lannom. Lexie is the Administrative Services Manager for the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce, and has over 10 years of managerial experience in a variety of industries and business structures. In this introductory class, she will be walking you through the basics of building and updating an employee handbook from the position of compliance with local, state, and federal guidance. This class will provide general resources for all employers and you do not need to have a current employee handbook to participate.
In addition to introducing the purpose of an employee handbook, we will be taking a look at the following employment policies: equal opportunity employment, discrimination & harassment, sexual harassment, work eligibility, employee classification, scheduling breaks & meals, overtime reporting, minimum wage for tipped & regular employees, employee benefits requirements, leave & time off, workplace safety, privacy & confidentiality in the workplace, personnel records, drug & alcohol use, and new hire reporting.
This is part one of a series on Building Your Employee Handbook, stay tuned for additional classes!
Please note: This class is a general overview of federal, state, & local employment policies that may apply to employers in the city of Chicago. The content of this class is not legal advice. Always check with a legal professional before changing or updating your employment policies.
